The Table
The Table is a participatory theater performance meets interactive game meets collective meal ritual experience created by PCC Artistic Leader Mei Ann Teo and performance maker Erika Chong Shuch, with dramaturg Tomi Tsunoda, that playfully investigates both our complicity in habits of consumption and our agency in changing them. The Table is a replicable experience, that can be adapted anew within a multiplicity of communities, inviting local audiences, artists, and activators to participate. The creative process is seeded through an intentionally designed series of interviews, conversations, games and creative laboratories with makers, seekers, and performers in each performance locale. Each live event is comprised of a participatory performance in which pre-determined actors, randomly selected “players” and watchers enact childhood games and images of consumption ranging from the joyful to the grotesque. The evening culminates in a collective meal ritual inspired-by the Zen Buddhist practice known as Oryoki, which invites the audience to reflect on the question of “what is enough”?
