Native Voices, 2005

Native Voices – Secret History examines the lives of people living between cultures: an exploration of race, culture and identity in America. Ping Chong was invited to create the production in collaboration with the Lied Center of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University, as part of the Bert Nash Community Summit. Native Voices explores issues both internal and external to Native American communities, examining both the common misconceptions and stereotypes of native communities by outsiders, but also exploring the similarities and differences within the cultures, tradition and experiences of native peoples. The participants in Native Voices – Secret History are drawn from both Haskell and the local Lawrence Native American community, and represent a range of tribal, geographic, generational and personal backgrounds.
